BACK TO SCHOOL SUCCESS

Happy August everyone, and yes… BACK TO SCHOOL is what we are talking about here!

We have so many mixed emotions this year!  Nervous anticipation and unknowns of what the future holds can lead us to prepare for some of which we can control. Each year we strive to have peace and order in our homes, but that only happens when you have a plan in place.  We all want a nice space for our kids to do homework and throw their backpacks after school, or to have a beautiful home office to get your best work done if working from home.  Whatever your circumstance, it’s important to prepare adequately and be organized so everyone is set up for a successful year.

If you're feeling stressed about any of these little details, start by asking yourself...

Do I have a designated space set up for homework or virtual learning?

Once you decide where this space will be, organize the necessary tools and supplies in bins or baskets, over the door hangers, and color code them if they're being used by multiple children. Label every bin and basket for easy clean-up. Assign a place to display artwork and notes of encouragement, and always keep it well lit so they don’t get sleepy while working!

Do I have space to work from home successfully?

Is your home office well-stocked?  When you reach for a sticky note or stapler, do you know where it is? First, identify what tools you need, then which you have and what you still need to purchase, and then finally create a space to store each item you require.  The success is the simplicity. We’ve said it before, and we don’t want to miss an opportunity to share again - be sure your Zoom background is well planned, and you will be 90% more prepared than anyone else on your video call!

Do I have visibility on the family’s schedule?

If you don’t currently have a way to view everyone’s schedule, we highly recommend using the calendar app on your phone or computer, or a family calendar app (like the Cozi Family Organizer) to keep everyone's schedules on track and color-coded. (You didn’t think we’d have a blog without talking about color, did you?!) Once you have an app in place, it’s a great idea to add important highlights to a centrally located calendar in your home for the entire family to see at a glance.  We love this calendar from Amazon! ref=sr_1_21

We also recommend a daily routine for all little ones to establish a morning and bedtime schedule with an illustrated checklist that gets displayed proudly on the wall. As they get older and independant they'll be able to go down the list themselves.

Do I feel peaceful in this space?

It's worth splurging on some small items to help you love this area… for example, a comfortable office chair, a nice desk lamp, or a beautiful piece of art.  If you’re not quite sure what you’re missing, we’d be happy to help you identify ways you can enhance your home work space with a few poignant touches!
